Business Planning Competition CartoonI was recently asked to judge the Progress 2 Capital Business Planning Competition. While this process, for each of the competitors, involved months of planning, critiques, refinements, and boot camps, the entrepreneur judges managed to get away with nothing more than a day and a half commitment.

Enough time to hear many great ideas. Enough time to meet many great entrepreneurs-to-be. Enough time to wonder why there is so often such a disconnect between the two.

I see many great ideas fail because the wrong people are behind them. I also see many poor ideas succeed because the right people are behind them. If the dream team were not possible, what would provide the greatest likelihood of success? The great idea, the great people, or neither?
